Two in a row!!

It was just last month that we, The Long Island Roller Rebels, won a home, inter-league bout against The Hudson Valley Horrors. (Click here to read all about it). Last Saturday, July 19th, we went on to win another bout against The Wilmington Ruff Rollers. We were in the lead throughout, but it still remained a close game.  Close that is until the near end when we victoriously won by 30 points!! Once our write up is on our official website, I will be sure to let you all know.  Thanks to everyone who came out to enjoy the event.  I hope you all had as much fun as we did!!

Sudsy Success!!

If your car or bike is still dirty and you're not experiencing what I like to call the Derby Girl Delirium Tremens today, chances are you didn't make it out to one of the greatest fundraisers of the summer!  The Long Island Roller Rebels' car wash fundraiser yesterday at Mr. Beery's (THANK YOU GUYS SO MUCH FOR HOSTING THIS EVENT!!) was one we will never forget!
With derby girls running signs down the busy sidewalks of Hempstead Turnpike, it didn't take long before the cars were headed straight for the water.
We stayed super busy as cars just kept piling in....................................
We even had the help of Cyanide Kisses' little man Will...................
.............and before we could blink the parking lot was filled with The Long Island Road Runner's MC What an amazing group of people!  They were more than happy to not only pay us for the bike washes, but also to add some extra money to the derby fund!!  By the looks of the last two fundraisers we've had, It seems the mix of motorcycle clubs and derby girls makes for one delicious cocktail!!  We can't wait to hear these guys cheer us on at this Saturday's bout.

Towards the end of the day, which was perfect timing for a pick-me-up, D-Ball flagged down a Red Bull car.  Once the car pulled into the lot, we treated them to a free wash. The reps graciously rewarded us with complimentary cans of Red Bull.
A very special thanks to our one and only Chest Blockwell, for organizing another fun and successful event!!  Stay tuned fans, there are rumors of a second car wash to come.......

Crafty Derby

I've been a crafter of sorts for pretty much my whole life. Dorky? Maybe, but my work has brought some extra (and well earned) cash my way. It's also a good way to pass the time while you don't have your skates on or are resting up from an injury. Well maybe not a broken arm, but you get the idea. Anyhow, years ago I came across the website Sublime Stitching. Jenny Hart embroiders custom pieces of art out of colorful threads and a needle. For those of us who aren't as slick with the pins or can't afford one of her marvelous works, she's made it pretty easy AND inexpensive for us to learn how to master the art ourselves. Available on her website are a diverse selection of patterns and kits with easy to follow instructions. What does this have to do with roller derby you ask? Take a look at this

Click here to go directly to this pattern on her website. If you don't like this one, don't worry, there are plenty of other cool patterns to choose from.
