One Thing - Courtesy of Fresh Blood Lisa

Unfortunately, there has been a bit of bad news in our derby world. First and foremost, one of our teammates Chest Blockwell, suffered a broken ankle last week. She spent several days in the hospital and finally had her surgery. She is thankfully now home recuperating. We love you Chest and wish you a speedy recovery!!

In addition, our ref Jimmy Rage's mom was the victim of a hit and run. She suffered knee and leg injuries, but thankfully will be ok. And, teammate St. Zombie's Fire had her car windows, along with the windows of 49 other cars in her neighborhood, smashed. While trying to clean up the glass from the vandalism, her brother broke his leg.
While all of this news is unfortunate, something good came out of it. The bad news inspired Fresh Blood Lisa to turn things around. After reading all of these posts on our message board she started a new post asking everyone to list one good thing that happened to them or a loved one today. It was refreshing to read all of the positive responses. I feel like so often we lose sight of the good things that we have and all of the great things that happen to us on a daily basis.
Lisa, thank you for starting this! Not everyone got to post an answer yet, but I'd like to share the responses she got thus far.

Punky Boobster – Took my last EVER Spanish final

Needlz Chick - My sweetie and I had a lovely breakfast on our porch. And tonight is my 2nd Roller Skating Lesson!

Ninja Starr - I am participating in a community beautifying project and helping to build a day care center for the under-privileged.

Jimmy Rage - I took the Ronkonkoma train today. It's much, MUCH better than the Stony Brook train

Missy Nigma - I danced to the Beatles with the babies i nanny for during lunch today. So fun!

Mr. Bangs - I'm off today after a long week at work...And I painted a backboard for the team.

A.Lee.S - I am getting my hair cut for the first time since last summer, so I am super psyched about that :-)

Fresh Blood Lisa - told the director of the facility where I work, to remember me when it comes time for transfers so that I can move ahead and heal in a healthy environment.

AEnemy of Daylight - I got to spend way too much time daydreaming about a boy I have a super crush on----
I think I figured out what's wrong with my motorcycle (finally) & was able to find the parts I needed.
I offered a teammate a ride home--- Yeah, that's some good stuff for today ;-)

Mega Watts - I matched a shelter dog up with it's owner today by cross checking intakes and missing classifieds. I do this daily and it's always a rush when I get a hit

Miss Murderheart - i took a minute out of my 9 hour work day to stare at momma and poppa geese walking their baby geese across the street. it made my heart swell...
and i love that you started this discussion <3

Young Stunna - had my first day at Estee Lauder :)

Etta Jams - I went running for the first time in months and my knee didn't hurt!! Lisa, I LOVE this and want to post it on the blog.

Please feel free to share your one good thing in the comments field.

"The Long Island Roller Rebels All-Stars have won their 3rd bout in a row! 120-69! All the bouts we have won so far have been on the road...all the bouts were played against teams in upstate NY, and they were all season openers for their respective home teams...

A Wonderful Beginning

The Rolling Thundercats did it again, but not without a fight! Though the Cats were the winners on Saturday night, it wasn't an easy win for them. The Ladies of Laceration had some very impressive grand slam jams, powerful hits and solid walls. Both teams worked really hard out there. But alas, congratulations go out to The Thundercats!!
I had a great night announcing with Jake (as usual), and it was great to see some old fans, meet some new fans and reminisce with an old friend. Susan if you're reading this, it was great to see you and talk about Grandma's iced tea and of course, Rich.

It was a great start to our intra-league season. Thanks to everyone for coming out. Can't wait til next time!!

Sitting here, Waiting

I'm really excited about tonight! I knew I would be happy to be back announcing with Jake and especially for our first intra-league bout of the season, but I didn't anticipate feeling this excited. I am of course a bit sad to not be skating, but honestly even if I was on the roster this season, I don't think my knee could handle a bout right now, after my recent fall. As it turns out, a doctor's visit may be in order as my knee was left a bit disfigured. I am not certain if I have a build up of scar tissue, or a possible chipped bone, but whatever the case, it doesn't look good. In addition, I still can't fully put pressure on it. But enough about me!

Tonight is going to be fantastic!! Derby, music, beer, merch and an all around good time. I hope you've all purchased your tickets and have your rink side seats dusted off and ready to go. I'll be there next to my co-announcer, the wonderfully funny Jake, cheering the girls on.

See you all later!!

Feelin' The Facts

I'm happy to say that the first 25 Random Facts post was a huge success! I received a lot of positive feedback and people want to see more, more, more! I'd like to run a little contest of sorts. Maybe present a question to the league and feature the first person to answer it correctly. What do you all think of that? Fair deal?

In the meantime, if you haven't already heard, we've got a huge thing happening this Saturday. It's the FIRST intra-league bout of the season. The Ladies of Laceration are up against The Rolling Thundercats. Now I'm sure all of you fans out there have already purchased your tickets, but for those of you who haven't, simply click here to buy them.

With some new skaters on each of the teams, this should make for an interesting bout. Can't wait to see all of you screaming fans there!!
