Help Me Become a Roller Rebel!!

I know that there are a lot of you out there who are extremely interested in roller derby.  Some of you are probably saying to yourself, "I want to play." While others are simply looking for ways to get involved, yet neither of you know where to start.  Well my friends, I'm here free of charge, to help advise you so that you can get to where you want to be in the world of The Long Island Roller Rebels. Below are categories I have created to help simplify the "finding what I want" process. First, choose your number and then move on to the lists of possible questions you may have and yes you guessed it, solutions.  For all interested parties out there, please come and join The Long Island Roller Rebels for their open house:

Tuesday, October 28th

Seaford, NY 11783

3-People interested in roller derby, but don't think they have what it takes to play.
4-People who know they've got what it takes to play, but don't know how to get started.
5-People who want to participate with the league, but don't want to skate or compete.
6-People who love following the rules, love to skate, but hate contact sports.
7-Business owners who would like some more information about the league.

1-League members
Ok this one's a given.  If you fall into this category and you don't know what to do, we have a problem.  Please see me immediately at the next practice.
2-Fans
I've been to a bout and I love watching!  Come to more of them!!  Each one is action packed, unique and provides something for everyone!!  Your support is one of the most important things. Without our fans, we have no reason to bout.
I want more people to become fans like me:  So do we.  Help us spread the word!  Bring your friends and family to our bouts. Repost all of our bulletins that you see on Myspace and Facebook. Attend our fundraisers and other events and bring people with you.
I want to help you guys advertise and I like to dress cool:  Ok let's kill two birds with one stone here.  Buy one of our T-shirts and wear it!  Merchandise+fan= more fans!!  Umm ok maybe three stones. That will take care of more people becoming fans too!
I can't come to your events, but I'd like to donate some money to help you guys out:  Sorry you can't be there, but we appreciate your offer!!  Donations can be given to any Roller Rebel or you can send us some loot through our PayPal account.  Just click here.
Required skills:  Cheering, watching, spreading the word

3-People interested in playing roller derby, but don't think they've got what it takes to play.
I don't know how to roller skate:  Many of the women who play roller derby couldn't even stand on skates when they started and now they are competing in bouts once a month.
I'm too skinny, too short or too big:  Size is not an issue.  There are different strategies (and different positions) for different sizes all of which can be learned.
I don't have any equipment:  When starting out, we will lend you skates, pads and a helmet until you're able to buy some.
I'm not fast or strong enough:  You might not be now, but if you continue to practice with the league, you will be!!
I don't know anyone in the league and I'm shy around new people:  All the more reason to come down.  Most of us are not shy, in fact, quite friendly.  We are always happy to welcome new prospects and can't wait to meet you.  Come on down to United Skates in Seaford, NY on Tuesday, October 28th from 8-10 PM for our open house.  If you can't make it out that night, simply Email us at info@longislandrollerrebels.com for the information on where you can go to try out another time.

Required skills:  Dedication and determination

4-I know I've got what it takes to play.
I know how to skate, do I still have to try out?  Yes.  You will need to be involved with tryouts, an interview and an assessment.
Can I start bouting right away?  Unfortunately, no.  As a nationally ranked league, we must follow certain criteria before we can get you started.  If you are as good as you say you are, chances are you will be bouting in no time!

Required skills:  trying out and coming to practice consistently

5-I want to participate with the league, but don't want to skate or compete.
How can I be a league member without skating?  The Long Island Roller Rebels are always looking for volunteers.  It takes a lot more than skating to run a league.  We are always looking for volunteers to help with events, bouts, stats, and other various league duties.  If you would like to help out and be a part of a great derby family, yes you guessed it, come on down to our open house or email us at heidihoebag@longislandrollerrebels.com for more information.

6-People who love the rules, love to skate, but don't want to compete
There is another name for this category and it's called "I want to be a referee."  No problem!  We are always looking for new refs.  Again, come on down to United Skates on October 28th or email us at Referees@longislandrollerrebels.com and someone will get back to you with all of the information you need to become a ref.
I don't know the rules of roller derby:  No problem.  The latest rules of flat track roller derby can easily be obtained by visiting the WFTDA website.

7-I own a business and I would like more information about your league.
I have a lot of money and I want to give it to you or I would like to advertise with you or I would like to exchange products for ad space in your bout programs. Great!  We'll take it...all of it!  As a self funded league, The Long Island Roller Rebels are always looking for new sponsors. Contact us to see what types of sponsorship/advertising packages we provide please email us at Cyanidekisses@longislandrollerrebels.com

I hope that I have covered all of the bases here.  Let me know if I've left anything or any of you out!!  Feel free to leave a comment, ask a question or provide a suggestion.  See you all on the 28th!!

Later,
The Ettator
