This Is How We Roll.....

It's 7:30 on a Tuesday night at United Skates of America, a roller rink in Seaford, New York, where a public, open skating session is coming to an end.  Unbeknownst to most, the rink is about to be transformed from holding a somewhat ordinary skating session, to holding a most extraordinary one.  Yes, The Long Island Roller Rebels have entered the building!  As rental skates are being returned, The Rebels make their way through the crowd of kids and parents, and prepare to gear up for one of their weekly practices.  The mandatory garb is being donned; helmet, knee and elbow pads, wrist guards, and let's not forget those ever so important mouth guards.  Skates are laced and they're ready to um, well, roll.

Who are these Roller Rebels and what exactly are they practicing?  The Long Island Roller Rebels are an all female, flat track, roller derby league.  They are the only roller derby league to grace Long Island with their presence, and a MIGHTY presence it is!!  The league is made up of dedicated women, various sizes and shapes, ages 21 and up, who gather 3 nights each week and put a lot of hard work and sweat into practice.  High endurance skating drills, strength training, falling and hitting each other, are just the beginning of what takes place, all for the thrill of competition and the love of the sport.  These intense practices keep the girls in top shape to ensure that they are prepared to compete in bouts (aka games) with other leagues from around the country.  Their next bout will take place on July 19th at Skate Safe America, in Old Bethpage, New York.  More info to come....

So stick around because The Long Island Roller Rebels are here to share with you all of the hardcore, uncensored fun that is roller derby.  Don't worry if you're not ready to skate with us. You can simply tune in here for your all-access pass to the action.  This blog will serve as your personal portal into the world of The Long Island Roller Rebels.  We promise to not only inform you, but entertain you as well.  So be prepared for bad puns, good fun and full (cyber) derby interaction!
