A Massage From Mom
Serial Mom aka The Mom I'd Like To Block, has been skating with the Long Island Roller Rebels since the summer of 2007. After suffering from a bone-breaking injury, Serial Mom went through countless hours of physical therapy, walking with a cane, and came back to play stronger than ever! All the while raising her daughter Ava and working as a massage therapist.

Serial Mom graduated from Swedish Institute in NYC and has been practicing massage therapy since August of 2005. She specializes in Swedish, deep tissue, medical, sports, shiatsu, reflexology, and pre-natal massages. She is a NYS Licensed and Nationally Certified By The National Certification Board of Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork (NCBTMB). She currently works for two spas and also has a side business.

For more information or to schedule a massage, Serial Mom (aka Linda Gonzalez,LMT), can be contacted at LingoLMT@hotmail.com, 631-806-2666. When not getting a massage by this mulit-talented mama, be sure to check her out in action on the track. Serial Mom skates as an alternate for our travel team and for home team The Rolling Thundercats.
I couldn't think of a better day for this post to go up because today we wish Serial Mom's daughter Ava a VERY happy 4th birthday!! Happy birthday Ava!!

Back In Action
The girls played an amazing game, one of the best I've seen. The Rebels skillfully applied various strategies and their jammers all did a phenomenal job. Jersey fought hard to keep up with the hard hits and plays, but in the end they did more than keep up, they won. The score was SO close, 163-165. Congratulations Jersey Shore!!
Click here to see photos from one of our favorite photographers Krystyna.
One of the best parts of the night was getting to see Captain Morgan back in the game after taking off a season to recover from an injury (Ironically enough, Captain was hurt the last time the Rebels bouted against Jersey Shore). I know she was so glad to be back out there.
It was a great night and I can't wait to do it all again. See you all next time!!

Groovin' On A Sunday Afternoon

Once the weather warms up, we plan outdoor practices and put our wheels to the pavement. This is great for so many reasons. First, being able to practice outside and getting to enjoy the fresh air and warmth at the same time is just such a nice bonus. Second, skating outdoors REALLY works your muscles so much harder than skating indoors. It's a great way to challenge yourself and improve your stamina because the pavement isn't as smooth and there are hills, inclines and unexpected obstacles everywhere. I had forgotten all about that until today! Whoa are my thighs gonna be hurting tomorrow. And third, it's FREE!! Being there today reminded me that I have skating in the park to look forward to and well, summer just can't come soon enough.
My boyfriend effortlessly skated the trail - up, down, flipping backward and then forward with such ease. Jumping, sprinting, you name it he did it, and did it well. He also somehow avoided each and every rock, pebble and stick without ever looking at the ground. Let me add that he did this all while wearing dance skates, untied, with small worn out indoor wheels. I kept up as far as speed, but shamelessly admit that my footwork simply could not compare to his. Time to have him teach me some moves again!!
Anyway, I suggest you all get out there. Strap on your skates and gear and work those wheels!! You'll be so happy you did.

WIDE awake
It was a long practice tonight at United Skates. The new girls were there to take their skills test and once we were all done, my head was spinning!! Still, I can say with all honesty that I loved every minute of it.
As I sit here at 2:00AM writing this, I am thinking about all of the girls who took the test tonight. The determination on some of their faces, the improvement in skills that some demonstrated and the bit of nervousness that they all shared. I am very excited for those who passed and for those who did not, I look forward to their next time up at bat. I know they will continue to strive and prove that they can do it!!
Great job tonight ladies.....that includes all of the coaches and veterans who helped out.

Let the Drafting Begin!!
This is a very exciting time for the Rebels! Tonight, our latest group of Fresh Bloods will be taking their physical skills test. After that, all passing players will be placed on one of our three teams; The Wicked Wheelers, The Ladies of Laceration and The Rolling Thundercats. In addition, most of our vets will be placed into the draft and it's possible that they will be placed on a team that they did not play for last season. It's bittersweet I suppose. On one hand, it's exciting to see what the new girls are made of but at the same time, some veterans will need to make a switch. But in the end, we're all Roller Rebels and we all root for each other.
Stay tuned to learn about the brand new home team rosters for 2010!!
